Latest Arsenal injury news as Eze worry addressed and Odegaard gives new update

Mikel Arteta has been forced to deal with having several players on the sidelines with injuries throughout the season, and that will continue this weekend for the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

The Gunners will make the trip to Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they look to win their first major trophy of the season, but have doubts over the fitness of some key members of their squad.

Martin Odegaard missed Arsenal’s win over Leverkusen with a knee injury and the Gunners captain offered an update on his recovery in his pre-match programme notes.

“Again, I was so disappointed not to be involved in the game,” Odegaard wrote. “I’m working hard to be back as soon as I can, and I’m feeling stronger all the time.”

Eberechi Eze also handed Arsenal an injury scare during the win over Leverkusen, as he was replaced by Kai Havertz in the second half due to a suspected fitness concern.

However, the England international eased those fears when he provided his own update after scoring in the victory at the Emirates Stadium.

“Yeah, I’m alright,” Eze told TNT Sports. “I’ll be okay.”

Jurrien Timber also remains out for Arsenal after suffering an ankle injury earlier this month, which has kept him on the sidelines for the wins over Everton and Leverkusen.

Before the win over Leverkusen, Arteta was asked if Timber had a chance of returning in time to face Man City in the Carabao Cup at the weekend.

"We don't know, I think with him [Timber] it will be a matter of days, but not sure,” Arteta told reporters earlier this week.

Mikel Merino remains a long-term absentee for Arsenal with a foot injury, which is expected to keep the Spain international on the sidelines for the rest of the season.
