Bruno Guimaraes and Gabriel send defiant Arsenal message after Brighton defeat

They found themselves behind thanks to a Pascal Gross strike, with Brighton doubling their lead through Charalampos Kostoulas just before half time. The Seagulls made it 3-0 through Chema Andres in the second half, with Arsenal unable to find a way back into the game.

The loss ends Arsenal’s 100 per cent winning start to the season as they look to defend their Premier League title. It also comes in the final game before a new three-week international break.

The international fixtures will see a lot of the Arsenal squad go and join their international teams, with both Guimaraes and Gabriel called up to Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad. They will face Australia in two international friendlies.

Ahead of meeting up with the squad, both players have taken to social media to respond to the loss against Brighton.

Guimaraes posted a picture of the Arsenal team in a huddle on his Instagram stories, along with a message reading: “Definitely not the way we wanted to finish before the international break. We know this isn't the level we should be at when wearing this shirt.

“We'll work even harder when we're back to make sure this doesn't happen again. Thank you for your support. Gunners.”

Gabriel then shared a picture posted by Arsenal on his own story and wrote: “One setback doesn't define us. We know who we are.

“We know what we're fighting for. We'll be back. Stronger. Hungrier. Together.”

Despite the defeat, Arsenal still sit in second place in the Premier League table, although Manchester City have the chance to open up a three-point gap at the top when they host Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking post-match , Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta took a similar stance to his players. "Extremely disappointed,” he said.

“But first of all, we have to congratulate Brighton; they deserved it. They were the better team, and from our side, there were certain basics in football that we didn't.

"Winning the first ball. They put us in a really difficult place. The amount of technical errors. We didn't respect any principle of play. We had moments of dominance and control, and we opened them up; we didn't take those chances."
