Diaby departed Aston Villa to join Al Ittihad in 2024, but German publication Fussball Daten reports that he could be lined up for a Premier League comeback in the off-season.
The winger held discussions with Inter Milan during the January transfer window, though a deal failed to materialise and he remains eager about the prospect of returning to Europe.
Al Ittihad paid Villa $67 million for Diaby two years ago, and at 26 years old the prime years of his career ought to lie ahead of him.
Liverpool are understood to be amongst several Premier League sides that are in "close contact" with Diaby's representatives ahead of a potential summer raid. The Reds are contemplating life after Mohamed Salah, who could also be set for a summer transfer move, potentially to the Saudi Pro League.

Salah is tied to Liverpool until 2027, having penned a two-year extension last April, but his performances have declined significantly this season and he could be offloaded in the summer. The Egyptian star is Liverpool's top earner, raking in over half a million dollars weekly, but has only managed to net five Premier League goals this season.
Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle are also believed to be keen on bringing Diaby to England, whilst Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid are cited as possible options, reports Liverpool.com.
Diaby is likely to be available for a reduced fee compared to what Al Ittihad paid to secure him, with reports suggesting the Saudi Pro League outfit would be willing to accept a sum of between $41 million and $46 million.
Diaby came to Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of for a reported £52m, which was then Villa's record fee. He played 54 times in his one season, scoring ten before becoming part of the club's PSR calculations and being moved on to Saudi Arabia.
