Villa should target four players to solve problem position after PSG transfer

Aston Villa are in need of a new left-back as Lucas Digne closes in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Pervis Estupiñán emerged as Unai Emery's primary target to replace Digne, but it appears new AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim wants to take a closer look at the Ecuador international before sanctioning a possible sale.

Villa are also in the market for a new right-back to replace Andrés García, a midfielder to provide cover for Amadou Onana, and another creative attacking option, with depth in the final third limited ahead of their Champions League campaign.

Here are the left-backs Villa should be considering this summer...

He's the obvious target and one Villa will hope to sign sooner rather than later, although a deal is far from certain.

Estupiñán excelled under Unai Emery at Villarreal, where he also played alongside Pau Torres in defence.

After impressing at Brighton, Estupiñán joined AC Milan last summer for around €20 million but struggled for regular starts in Serie A.

He started just 13 league matches, and Milan are understood to be open to recouping the fee they paid Brighton 12 months ago.

Should Villa fail to land Estupiñán, West Ham's El Hadji Malick Diouf could be an excellent alternative and would represent another young addition to the squad, following the arrivals of Alejandro Garnacho and Johan Manzambi.

Diouf impressed during his debut Premier League campaign after joining West Ham from Slavia Prague in a deal worth £22 million plus add-ons, and Brentford are also believed to be interested this summer.

The Senegal international registered five assists in 32 league appearances last season and would surely relish the opportunity to join Villa.

Villa are already reported to be interested in Club Brugge full-back Joaquin Seys, one of Belgium's brightest young defensive talents.

The 21-year-old made 29 appearances in the Belgian Pro League last season and featured a further nine times in the Champions League, starting eight of those matches.

Although naturally left-footed, Seys spent much of the 2024/25 campaign at right-back, including Club Brugge's 1-0 victory over Villa in the Champions League league phase.

A ready-made replacement for Digne could be RB Leipzig's David Raum, who has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club over the past year.

The 28-year-old captains Leipzig and has represented Germany on the international stage. With his contract running until 2027, there may be scope for negotiations if Leipzig are willing to cash in before his value begins to decline.

Raum is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League, and Villa could see him as an experienced option capable of making an immediate impact as one of Germany's leading full-backs.
