Sidnei Tavares is determined to prove his worth to Blackburn Rovers after a 'really difficult' debut campaign.

The Portuguese midfielder was a marquee signing and earmarked to replace outgoing captain Lewis Travis. But he struggled to make an impression and suffered a series of injuries.

Now fit again, the 24-year-old wants to prove himself under Tony Mowbray and show why the club signed him.

"It was really difficult, really difficult, especially getting two or three injuries, some serious injuries as well," he told RoversTV.

"As I said before, stuff outside the pitch made it difficult as well, but as I said, stuff happens with each player; everyone's different, and from there it's how you react really.

"This season I have to react and all of us have to react and get good results really. It's very important, especially from last season we had the two managers, the season didn't go well, and having a clean slate always gives everyone a different break, a new mentality.

"It be good and everyone's enjoying it, everyone's having a good time, so everyone's working well, so we'll be good for sure.

"We're very determined. Obviously our objective has always been the Premier League and that will be the main objective and we won't stop until we get it."

Tavares feels more adapted to his surroundings after a year at the club. Although he came through the youth ranks at Leicester City and so knows the country, he feels every environment is different.

"Every player's different, everyone takes their time to adapt, every league's different obviously, especially in a Championship where it's very physical," he said.

"You have to be on edge, you have to be sleeping early, you have to be training high intensity, so it can be difficult for everyone; it can be easy for some of us, but you just have to get used to it really.

"I feel much settled now, especially since I've got a daughter now and my partner as well, she likes Manchester, she's enjoying it now and she's speaking the language more as well.

"So definitely they're comfortable with it, so I'm happy as well, so I feel happier to be at the club and get good results really."
