Blackburn Rovers advancing in talks to sign exciting free agent

The Japanese midfielder was last at St.Truiden in 2025/26, leaving at the end of his contract.

The 28-year-old scored 10 goals and registered five assists in the Belgian top flight and was at the Brockhall Senior Training Centre on Monday.

As per reports, Lancashire Telegraph understands those discussions have been positive and there is an expectation he becomes a fourth addition to bolster Tony Mowbray's squad.

Ito spent three years in Belgium, which was his first foray into Europe after spending his career in Japan. He would be the third player of that nationality in the squad following the successes of Yukon Ohashi and Ryoya Morishita.

He would bolster Rovers’ midfield options, either in a deeper or more advanced role. After the exits of Sidnei Tavares and Axel Henriksson, plus the collapsed move for Brian De Keersmaecker, it was an area they wanted to strengthen.

Rovers have two spaces available in their 25-man squad after opting not to register Lewis Miller. That means Ito can be added at any point if he indeed signs.

The cut-off for Saturday’s home match with Millwall would be Friday at 12pm.

Jordan Ayew, who was linked but never the primary target, looks set to join Sheffield United.
