"We all dream of playing here" - Cherries confirm signing of Juanlu from Sevilla

The 22-year-old arrives on the south coast for £9.5m with a potential £1.7m in add-ons, as a player with plenty of potential but also good experience for his age, having played more than 100 times for Sevilla since progressing through their academy.

Juanlu played 68 times for Sevilla’s second team, before going on to make 108 appearances for the senior side, including in the Champions League.

The right-back, who can play further forward as a winger, also had a loan spell in Spain’s second tier with Mirandes in the 2022/23 season, where he featured 38 times, scoring two goals and providing five assists.

He scored six goals and notched 11 assists in his 110 games for Sevilla.

On the international stage, Juanlu represented Spain at the 2024 Olympics and helped his nation to the goal medal.

He scored the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Morocco in the semi-final, before playing in the final against France – lining up opposite now-Cherries teammate Adrien Truffert.

Bournemouth were in the market for a right-back after Alex Jimenez was suspended by the FA at the end of last season pending an investigation, which is currently ongoing.

Jimenez went out on loan to Fiorentina this summer.

President of football operations, Tiago Pinto, added: “Juanlu has an excellent level of experience at just 22, and we’re really pleased to add him to Marco’s squad.

"With Sevilla, he has shown his qualities domestically and in European competitions, so we know of his ability to compete at the top level consistently.

"He is young still and hungry for more, so adds further invaluable characteristics to the squad ahead of the upcoming season.

"We’re really looking forward to seeing how he continues to progress here with us and for how he will develop with Marco and the team.”

Juanlu is the third addition to Marco Rose’s Cherries squad this summer, after the arrivals of striker Alvaro Rodriguez and centre-back António Silva.
