Bristol City contract state of play with four departures confirmed

Bristol Post · Daniel Carter

Such alterations have been made in the final months of, and the weeks that followed, a mixed 2025/26 campaign in south Bristol. In flashes, City impressed with some excellent individual and collective displays, but ultimately, they came up short in the push for the top six.

The final margin to Hull City - the eventual play-off winners - stood at 11 points. Yes, the gap to Oxford United and the relegation zone stood at a comfortable 15 points after the final-day win over Stoke City, but that offered little relief for those hoping for another promotion push.

Emil Riis signed a three-year deal at Ashton Gate while each of Adam Randell, Seb Naylor and Noah Eile penned contracts until the summer of 2029, with the latter's containing the option to extend for a further season. Tomi Horvat's deal spans an even longer timeframe, with the Slovenian international under contract until the end of the 2029/30 season.

Following Skubala's appointment late last month, City have confirmed that Morsy, Mark Sykes and Harry Cornick will leave upon the expiry of their respective contracts this summer. Alongside that first-team trio, youngsters Zack Ali, Derek Ababio, Tom Chaplin, Ben Clark, Max Davies, Billy Phillips, Archie Taylor, Trayvion Jackson and Cavalli Walker have also been released.

Each of Josey Casa-Grande, Charlie Filer, Jack Hooper, Ruebin Sheppard and Ephraim Yeboah have had new contracts tabled by the Robins, while Skubala and Ellis have made it clear to Bristol Live that they wish to keep Sam Bell in south Bristol beyond this summer, when his deal is also set to expire.

The 24-year-old was not included in the release shared by City last week to confirm Sykes, Morsy and Cornick's departures, a move that seems to have confirmed that the door is very much open for the academy graduate to remain a Robin.

Jason Knight, Max Bird, Ross McCrorie, Joe Williams, Joe Lumley and Elijah Morrison are among those who are currently under contract until the end of the 2026/27 campaign and no further. Youngsters Ranel Young and Adam Murphy have similar agreements, but City hold options when it comes to both players.

Naturally, such situations are not ideal for the Reds, as demonstrated by last season's experience with Zak Vyner and Anis Mehmeti. If possible, therefore, extensions will no doubt be something Ellis, Skubala and Boss push for over the coming weeks and months, to avoid a case of history repeating itself.

The fact that the likes of Eile, Horvat, Riis, Rob Dickie, Rob Atkinson, Luke McNally and Cam Pring all have another two years, or more, to run on their current agreements should buoy supporters. On the defensive side of things, in particular, City seem well-stocked heading into the new campaign.

With Sinclair Armstrong's exit also confirmed, and the retained list published and clarified, Bristol Live has taken the chance to round up the current make-up of the Robins' ranks, just how long is left on each player's contract - as confirmed by the club - and the options that would be available to Skubala if the season started today...
