Bristol City Spain training sessions all about building intensity

The Robins have been in Spain this week in the blazing heat as they prepare for pre-season and will face their first game on Friday when they take on Stockport County.

Burchnall joined manager Michael Skubala in a coaching team which also includes First Team Coach Alex Ball and Goalkeeping Coach Pat Mountain.

"It's been great," he told RobinsTV. "I have really just enjoyed getting into the club and and into the players. They've applied themselves really well in the first part of pre-season and the first couple of weeks have been really positive.

"Obviously we've got the gaffer's sort of game plan and game model that that he wants to work towards and then it's just like piecing it together bit-by-bit all the different aspects that we want to try and see, but you know, you can't cover everything all at once. So, it's like step-by-step we're trying to cover everything over the course of the pre-season.

"I think every day we're just trying to to run a slightly different theme or or work towards a different objective and then the three of us are just going after it every day."

Talking about the time in Spain, Burchnall said: "The sessions have been good. They've been tough and with that added bit of heat and humidity just means that there's a little bit more demands, but the players know that it's really good for them and that when we get back, we'll really benefit for it.

"So, today's the second double that we've done in a row. The lads are working really hard. I think they'll be glad after this one's finished. Look, this gives us a base for the whole season. So, it's really important that we do the majority of the work. We know, especially in the Championship, there's a lot of games to play and it a lot of times where you go Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday.

"So, the base of the training that we can get into them is through this pre-season. So, it's so important. We want everything to be competitive. We know that when it's competitive, the tempo and intensity raises. So, we've got a little league table running with the boys.

"Everything that we do is working towards that. So, we want the lads to to be competitive. You know, we want whatever we do in training to reflect how we want to play in the game. So, we want that intensity and competitiveness in in every element of the session."
