SCOTT Parker said he was angry and confused after Burnley’s 2-0 defeat at Everton on Tuesday - but admitted the Clarets fans were right to vent their anger.
A goal in each half from former Burnley defender James Tarkowskii and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall helped Everton win at home for the first time in three months to keep themselves in the hunt for European football.
It was another tough night for Parker who was jeered by fans after replacing Hannibal Mejbri with Josh Laurent late in the second half.
On the fans’ boos, he said: “At times I’ve not understood their frustration this year but I understand it tonight.
“We came here and (have) not brought anything to the game and I totally get their frustration regarding the Hannibal substitution but there were reasons why Hannibal needed to come off.”
Burnley had gone two games unbeaten to lift the mood before their agonising 4-3 defeat at home to Brentford on Saturday where they had battled back from 3-0 down before losing in injury time.
Unfortunately for Parker, that fighting spirit was lacking at the Hill Dickenson Stadium.
Asked for his feelings on the performance, he said: “I think anger, I think confusion and trying to analyse the reason for the performance tonight because we were way short and never really in the game.
“We never got going and many things are going through my head at this present moment in time; coming out the weekend with the emotional fatigue (after being denied an added-time equaliser against Brentford) maybe I probably need to reflect on it tonight.”
