Argyle player ratings as Crystal Palace under-21s easily beaten

James Storer 7 - It was very encouraging to see Argyle's 21-year-old back-up goalkeeper to Murphy Cooper look so assured in this EFL Trophy start. He did not have much to do but was always alert to any danger and made a couple of very good saves, including one from Caleb Kporha when the Pilgrims were briefly down to 10 players on the pitch during the first half and holding a 1-0 lead.

Joe Edwards 6 - The Argyle captain got another hour of game time under his belt playing at right-back as he continues to build up his match fitness after missing all of pre-season.

Mathias Ross 7 - Showed admirable determination to continue playing after suffering a facial wound in the first half that will need some stitches. Julio Pleguezuelo was getting prepared to replace Ross but the Danish defender was having none of it and put in a strong performance.

Jack MacKenzie 6 - Hopefully this is the start of better fortunes for MacKenzie after he missed much of last season and the start of this term due to injury issues. Played in the first half as the left-sided centre-back before a planned substitution at the interval.

Jared Rendle 7 - An Argyle first team debut for the second-year apprentice who gave a very good account of himself, first at left-back and then in a wide midfield role. Provided the assist with a good pass when Caleb Watts scored his second goal of the game to make it 3-0 in the 38th minute.

Xavier Amaechi 8 STAR MAN - At times Amaechi was a class above the opposition with his ability on the ball and he scored his third goal of the season with a magnificent 30-yard strike to put Argyle 1-0 up in the 11th minute. The big question is can he reproduce this sort of performance in League One action? If he can, that would be a massive boost for the Pilgrims.

Bradley Ibrahim 6 - Played in central midfield and will have benefited from playing the whole of this EFL Trophy tie after only limited game time at the start of this season.

Caleb Roberts 6 - On loan to Torquay United in National League South, but his deal with the Gulls allows him to play for Argyle in the EFL Trophy so Tom Cleverley took the opportunity to have another look at the 20-year-old.

Caleb Watts 7 - Initially played wide on the left of midfield but was pushed into service as a striker after an ankle injury to Owen Oseni during the first half. Watts scored twice, although for the first goal the ball would probably have ended up in the empty net without his touch after Oseni clipped the ball over onrushing Palace goalkeeper Harry Lee.

Seb Campbell 7 - Became Argyle's youngest-ever goalscorer in the 6-2 EFL Trophy win against Tottenham U21s last season and the now 17-year-old attacking midfielder was also on target in the victory over Palace, putting the Pilgrims 4-1 up.

Owen Oseni 7 - The ankle injury to Oseni which forced his substitution in the 33rd minute was such a shame because he had looked so sharp until that point, causing the young Eagles defence all sorts of problems with his physicality and movement.

Matty Sorinola 6 - Was a 33rd minute substitute for the injured Owen Oseni and slotted into the team at left-back, with Jared Rendle pushed forward into a wide left midfield role while Caleb Watts went up front.

Wes Harding 6 - After the planned substitution of Jack McKenzie, Harding played as the left-sided centre-back next to Mathias Ross for the second period.

Tyreeq Bakinson 6 - Argyle made three changes in the 60th minute, with Bakinson taking over from Caleb Roberts in central midfield.

Bim Pepple 7 - It is now a goal in four successive games for the striker after a superb strike from a narriow angle to put the Pilgrims 5-1 up in the 86th minute, shooting high past former Exeter City goalkeeper Harry Lee.

Julio Pleguezuelo 6 - Was sent on for Joe Edwards in the 60th minute nd hsowed no ill effects from the kick to the Achilles which led to him being taken odd in the secind half of the 4-2 League One win at Blackpool on Saturday.
