Coventry City receive Dan Neil transfer update as clubs scramble for free agent

Coventry Telegraph · Alex Dicken

Neil will become a free agent once his deal at the Stadium of Light expires and has been linked with clubs in the Premier League and the Championship.

The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town and helped the Tractor Boys secure automatic promotion by way of finishing runners-up to Coventry.

Neil played 16 league games for Ipswich - eight starts and a further eight appearances from the bench - to secure the third promotion of his career.

The Sunderland Echo reports that Coventry and Ipswich could offer Neil the chance to play in the Premier League.

A whole host of Championship teams will covet a proven second-tier performer, and Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be interested.

But Neil reportedly has an admirer in Valencia boss Carlos Corberan, who could offer him a route into Spain’s La Liga.

Corberan spent time managing West Bromwich Albion in the Championship and talkSPORT say that he rates Neil extremely highly.

Coventry need at least one new midfielder after letting Jamie Allen depart at the end of his contract.

Frank Lampard’s options in the engine room currently are skipper Matt Grimes, Victor Torp, Josh Eccles and Frank Onyeka, whose loan from Brentford is due to become a permanent deal from July 1 as per the terms of the agreement.
