The Bristol City boss was magnanimous in defeat after the Sky Blues won 2-0 at Ashton Gate on Saturday to further strengthen the club’s charge for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Although Frank Lampard’s men weren’t at their swaggering best, they took a two goal advantage into half-time thanks to goals from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Haji Wright despite going a man down following the opening goal when defender Joel Latibeaudiere was sent off for a last man challenge.

City then managed the game effectively in the second half with Lampard switching formation to a five man defence and the players digging in to defend the inevitable attempted fight-back from the Robins, whose cause was not helped by also losing a man when Adam Randell was shown a second yellow card for a bad foul.

Asked why he thinks Coventry are so effective and the best team in the league right now, Struber said: “They’re really pragmatic, really clear with high quality. The starting players are top quality. The strikers are, physically-wise, on a high level and also I would say, how clean they are in tight spaces. It looks really good, really compact and also what they bring from the benches is on a really high level.

“So yeah, it’s a really big quality topic and also I would say they play really experienced Championship football with a really big pragmatism to win games, and I would say that’s the difference.”

Asked if he thinks they have the quality to go on to win the league, the 49-year-old Austrian coach said: “Yeah, I think it’s for me a team, of course, that has the quality to speak about the Premier League, and they have a lot of experience.

“And when you look in all phases in the game, especially in transition, how strong they are, how many goals they make in transition but also the whole set-play topic in which direction they score goals with set-pieces.

“You can see really physical power in a good mix with quality and football intelligence and yeah, it’s a really big team and for me it’s not a coincidence that they are on top in the table.”
