Frank Lampard delivers Coventry City injury update ahead of Tottenham clash

Coventry Telegraph · Brian Dick

Coventry City will be boosted by the availability of Kaine Kesler-Hayden and the return from suspension of Taiwo Awoniyi for Monday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

The right back will hope to make the match-day squad for the first time this season, while Awoniyi returns from suspension to challenge Sidiki Cherif for the starting spot.

Josh Eccles and Luke Woolfenden are still sidelined while Haji Wright remains out long term, with a quad injury that will drag on into December, while Aurele Amenda is also out, probably until well into December.

Speaking ahead of the Sky Blues' game with Spurs Lampard said: “Kaine's training with us, so he's available, Josh is not yet, he's had a baby girl last week and he's got a little bit of a problem with his ankle, returning from a calf injury.

“The calf's fine, but he's got a little issue with his ankle, so he's not on the training pitch with us yet, so we hope in the next two or three weeks to progress. Wolfy is maybe a little bit longer than that, we're thinking now.”

Lampard will be relieved to have Kesler-Hayden back, he admits not just as a back-up to Milan van Ewijk but as a ‘live contender’.

“Yeah, I do, he's come back sharp, he looks good," Lampard said. "Unfortunately when you compete with Milan, Milan was great last year, he doesn't miss many games, and Kaine didn't get as many minutes as he wants.

“But he was still a very valued squad member on and off the pitch, and it's not easy when players aren't playing minutes and I've got a lot of time for him because I signed him here and it's difficult when he's not playing so regularly.

“But there's a lot of talent in Kaine, speed, things that he can do in that position and he's there for us, he's available and keeping pushing.”

Kesler-Hayden was signed from Aston Villa in the summer of 2025 for a fee of around £3.5million. He made just a handful of starts in the first half of last season, missed several weeks through injury and was this summer sidelined by a hamstring problem.
