Former Norwich defender Dimitris Giannoulis 'rejected' Coventry City move

Coventry Telegraph · Andy Turner

Coventry City are reported to have been snubbed by former Norwich City defender Dimitris Giannoulis amid claims that the experienced player doesn’t want to return to England after three and a half seasons at Carrow Road.

The 30-year-old Greek international helped the Canaries gain promotion out of the Championship in 2021, going on to make 18 appearances in the Premier League before two more seasons in the second tier.

More recently the attacking left-back has been at German side Augsburg where he’s played 59 times in the Bundesliga over the last two years.

However, the article says that Giannoulis “recently rejected the move” after stating that he does not want to play in the Premier League again. The piece also says that fellow newly-promoted Hull City are also interested in the defender with 34 caps for Greece and who made 27 appearances in the Bundesliga in the 2025/2026 season, scoring 2 goals and providing 5 assists.

Greek side PAOK, however, seems the player’s most likely destination amid claims that the club have agreed a move with the player, albeit the club is “waiting for Augsburg to lower its demands below €3,000,000 and accept its final offer of €2,200,000 euros plus bonuses.”

Verdict: It comes as no surprise that the Sky Blues have been linked with an experienced left-back ahead of their return to the top flight. Jay Dasilva is Frank Lampard’s first choice at the moment but it’s a position that clearly requires strengthening with added quality, depth and competition. No disrespect to Jake Bidwell, but it’s a big ask for the 33-year-old who only featured in 11 league games last season, starting only three times.

Miguel Brau is current third choice but struggled to impose himself at Championship level last term and is likely to be moving on.

As for Giannoulis, this one appears to be dead in the water if the above information is correct but the link may shed a bit of light on the types of deals City are looking to pull off in terms of fairly modest or bargain fees for experienced players who have played in the Premier League, although the Greek only managed 18 appearances for Norwich at that level.
