Derby County are in talks with veteran centre-half Danny Batth about a new contract, it is claimed.
That’s according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon who states that manager John Eustace is a “fan” of the defender who followed him from Blackburn Rovers to Pride Park.
The 35-year-old, who has vast Championship experience from his time with Wolves, Stoke, Sunderland and Norwich, joined the Rams last summer on a free transfer. He made just 12 appearances in total in all competitions, including seven starts and three showings from the bench in the league.
DerbyshireLive verdict – Leigh Curtis says:
Batth arrived on a one-year deal in the summer after deciding to leave Blackburn Rovers and has added quality and experience to the roster of centre-backs available.
He may not be first-choice, but Eustace has often spoken about the importance of players with experience, leadership and the ability to drive standards away from matchdays.
Batth has proven to be a dependable performer when required. The mind casts back to his impressive performance against Birmingham at Christmas. With Sondre Langas and Matt Clarke expected to be first choice next season, and Dion Sanderson in reserve, Derby could justify another 12 months for Batth, as recruiting an expensive back-up does not make much sense if they are not guaranteed to play.
