Derby County striker has lift-off as position change instantly pays off
Dajaune Brown is happy to be playing up front again after opening his account for League Two outfit Rochdale.
The Derby County forward is at the start of his third loan spell in senior football having completed a season-long loan to Rochdale.
He has started all seven league games, five of them playing as a second striker/No. 10 position behind 6ft 5ins veteran Emmanuel Dieseruvwe.
However, with the 31-year-old yet to find the net in what has been a tough start to the campaign for Ian Watson’s men, Brown was restored as the focal point of the team in the derby game with Oldham.
The Dale won 2-0, moved off the foot of the table and Brown opened his account by going one-on-one with a defender and picking out the bottom corner to double his team’s lead.
The 20-year-old revealed he had been working hard off the field before the Oldham match – and even practised the situation from which he scored.
“Since coming here I have not really played the No. 9 as much,” he told club media. “I have been playing the No. 10 off Manny but I had been going into the No. 9 pretty much the whole week.

“Hendo [Ian Henderson] has been teaching me in a way, helping me learn, getting me back into the feeling of being the No. 9 during training; position work and stuff and after training going finishing – to be fair we did that exact finish I did today [in training] yesterday.
“It’s been great, it’s been lovely settling in, I think now I am settled in pretty much fully. The games and results weren’t going our way, they’re starting to turn now hopefully we can keep it that way and getting the first goal hopefully we can keep it on a roll.”
Brown has come through the academy set-up at Rams and has played 26 times for the first team since making his debut in August 2023.
