Zetterstrom claim emerges as European club 'pursuing' Derby County star

Lyon have reportedly put Derby County goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom on their list of potential targets, according to reports in France.

Foot Mercato claims that the Ligue One club are pursuing the Sweden international whose stock has risen considerably during his last two years at Pride Park.

Leeds, Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolves have already been linked with Zetterstrom with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claiming all three clubs had enquired about a price.

But now Lyon have emerged as admirers of the former Djurgarden stopper, who is back training with Derby following his exploits with Sweden at the World Cup.

Foot Mercato says that his profile appeals to Lyon who already have Dominik Grief and Remy Deschamps as their goalkeepers.

Zetterstrom's value has soared since his move to England, with Derby's plan to buy talent from Europe and develop them into assets paying dividends.

Wolves had previously scouted Zetterstrom before his move to Derby from Djurgarden two years ago, but the Rams moved quickly to sign him to replace the outgoing Joe Wildsmith.

Since then, Zetterstrom has become first choice at Derby and has produced a string of fine performances, with his display in a 3-2 win at QPR at the back end of last season being the pick of the bunch.

Although he did miss a considerable chunk of the season due to a virus, the aftermath of which kept him out from January to April, he was still called up to the World Cup squad by Sweden boss Graham Potter.

While Kristoffer Nordfeldt took the number one position for Sweden's opening group games, Zetterstrom took his place in a 1-1 draw against Japan.

He then retained his place for the knockout game against France, which, although they lost 3-0, pundits praised Zetterstrom for his performance.

The 28-year-old looks to have now established himself as his country's number one. This week he returned to training with Derby having been given extended leave due to his involvement in the World Cup this summer.

Sondre Langas has also been reunited with his team-mates after his exploits with Norway which ended with them going out at the quarter-final stage to England.

The transfer window is now open, the signings are being linked and players could be heading for the exit door at Pride Park as it promises to be a pre-season of change at the club.
