16 players linked with Derby County one week before the transfer window opens

Derby Telegraph · Leigh Curtis

Derby County enjoyed a good campaign last term, narrowly missing out on the play-off places.

However, Rams' reliance on loan players means there is plenty of work to be done this summer if they are to replicate that - and even exceed it.

The transfer window opens in seven days, on Monday, June 15 - and here's the full list of the players who have been linked with a move to Pride Park.

The Rams are one of more than 40 clubs claimed to be keen on the young Dundee defender. In recent days it has been claimed Valencia and Red Bull Salzburg are also interested. The 22-year-old is expected to move on in the summer – but the competition will be intense.

Barnsley accept they might have to cash in on one of their crown jewels this summer and their chief executive Jon Flatman admitted there have already been approaches for the 22-year-old winger.

The Reds knocked back an offer of £3million in the January transfer window but after an assist-filled campaign the former West Brom trainee has caught the eye of several Championship clubs.

The Rams are said to be one – and the shortage of front-line options on either flank means this makes sense.

The Sheffield Wednesday youngster only signed his first professional contract last summer but now has nine first team appearances to his name and according to one report the centre back has already been the subject of one rebuffed Championship approach.

Derby are claimed to be interested in the 19-year-old but the Owls are said to want to tie the teenager down to a long-term contract.

The striker, and former team-mate of Carlton Morris, is out of contract but has been offered a new deal by the Hatters.

The midfielder was released by Stoke City and is a free agent.

Brian De Keersmaecker

The midfielder arrived at Oxford last summer and did well until he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. The 26-year-old is still under contract after Oxford were relegated to League One. There have been no developments on this front so far this summer.

The Blackburn play-maker has finally found out who his manager will be next season – and it’s Tony Mowbray who has returned to Ewood Park. It was Eustace who took him from Rangers to Rovers.

James Tavernier

Has left Rangers after 11 years at Ibrox and after being denied a last game farewell by Danny Rohl. The 34-year-old is looking for a new club.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Sheffield Wednesday and there have been recent reports saying he is likely to leave. He has been linked with Derby who have seen Callum Elder leave Pride Park.

The Plymouth forward is hot property in League One and there is already speculation that the 24-year-old could be on the move just a year after he joined the club from Port Vale.

He has hit double figures in goals for the third season running and that has alerted a number of Championship clubs who might be teased into thinking he could do a job in the Championship.

Argyle manager Tom Cleverley says no bid has been registered for his prized asset as yet, but if a second-tier club does come calling, it's hard to see the Swiss forward staying put.

Derby are among several clubs that have reportedly taken an interest, a list that includes the likes of Sheffield United and Millwall.

The Ipswich attacker is available on a free transfer after leaving Portman Road following the end of a memorable five-year stay in Suffolk.

He was an integral part of Ipswich's rise from League One to the Premier League, and has considerable experience of the second tier.

Spent last season on loan at Portsmouth where he helped the club secure their survival in the second tier, but is now on the lookout for another club. Pompey have confirmed they won’t bring him back for a third spell at Fratton Park.

Eustace is keen on having Championship experience in the squad combined with young talent approaching their peak years.

Chaplin, given his history of helping teams win promotion, is unlikely to be short of offers.

Anthony Patterson

A bit of a left-field link given Derby are well stocked in the goalkeeping department. Josh Vickers and Richard O'Donnell signed new contracts and Jacob Widell Zetterstrom has another year left.

Sunderland are reported to want between £8m-£10m for Patterson who spent last season on loan at Millwall but just fell short of helping them fight for promotion to the Premier League.

Derby are unlikely to spend £8m on a goalkeeper when there are other priorities that need addressing first, particularly the wide areas.

A host of clubs in the Championship are said to be keen on Patterson but Sunderland will do well to find a club that will be prepared to pay near eight figures for his services.

Be interesting to see where he ends up.

The 23-year-old centre-back is said to be on Derby's radar having performed well in the Eredivisie for FC Excelsior.

Derby have not been afraid to dip into the Dutch league for talent having recruited Derry Murkin and Kenzo Goudmijn although the latter looks like he faces an uncertain future.

Widell has another year left on his contract, but is said to have interest from Danny Rohl and Glasgow Rangers.

But Widell would have a Swedish compatriot if he joined Derby in Jacob Widell Zetterstrom who is currently away on World Cup duty with his country.

Widell is expected to move this summer.

Dundee United are facing the prospect of losing their star winger with the 25-year-old having admirers in England and in Europe.

Ferry has recently won international recognition with Ireland and grabbed an assist on his debut in a 5-0 rout of Grenada.

He is another player who is approaching the final year of his contract with Dundee United said to be holding out for a seven-figure fee.

They have already rejected one bid, according to reports that have come from an unnamed club in Europe.

It's hard to see how United keep hold of him.

The Australian winger is tearing it up in the A-League and, again, is another player approaching the final year of his contract.

The exciting Newcastle Jets wideman has numerous clubs chasing his signature, ranging from clubs in Denmark, Germany, England and Japan.

The 24-year-old has an impressive goal return for a wide player but is capable of playing in an attacking midfield role or as a centre forward.

Reports in Australia say that Derby are one of the clubs that are interested in signing Adams who is widely expected to leave his homeland.

The defender has been released by Newcastle.

Last season, he spent the campaign at Middlesbrough but fell agonisingly short of winning promotion to the Premier League.

Middlesbrough are said to want to bring him back to the Riverside but Derby are reportedly interested in a deal too.

With Elder having left the club, the left-back spot could do with reinforcements and Targett brings a wealth of Championship and Premier League experience.
