On-loan Town goalkeeper set for new manager at La Liga club

The Spanish giants have sacked head coach Carlos Corberan, who previously managed Huddersfield Town and West Brom in the Championship, after a winless start to the season.

They sit bottom of the table with just one point from the opening five games following Friday night's 1-0 defeat at Sevilla.

Corberan had been linked with the Ipswich vacancy over the summer, with reports suggesting that he was one of the leading candidates to replace Kieran McKenna before Gary O'Neil was appointed.

Van Oevelen is yet to feature for Valencia since making his season-long loan move from the Blues last month. He is competing with experienced North Macedonian international Stole Dimitrievski for game time at the Mestalla Stadium.

The 23-year-old Dutchman moved to Portman Road in July, arriving for a £3.4m fee from Eredivisie outfit FC Volendam, signing a five-year contract.

He featured for O'Neil's side throughout pre-season, displaying an impressive range of passing, but the plan was always to send him away to develop, with fellow Dutchman Kjell Scherpen, Christian Walton and Alex Palmer in front of him in the goalkeeping ranks at Town.
