Daniel Farke warns the sleeping giant is awake as Leeds success brings pride

Leeds Live · James Smailes

Farke guided Leeds to safety with three games of the season remaining, highlighting how impressive the achievement is in a highly-competitive league where the club were fighting against established elite clubs at the bottom such as Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Leeds go into the final match of the season unbeaten in eight games, having been tough to beat all campaign and having turned Elland Road into one of the most difficult places for opposition teams to visit. That, but especially the pride among supporters which has been injected back into the club, is what Farke says has given him the most pleasure in a season to remember for so many reasons.

"What I'm proud of, the achievement with this sleeping giant, Leeds United, after really difficult decades to deliver more or less the second good season in the last 25 years on Premier League level," said Farke.

"And also because I think even in comparison to a few years ago, it's even more difficult to establish on Premier league level, because the gulf stream between the Premier League and the Championship is getting bigger and bigger.

"And then to do this in this fashion, in this way, this is very pleasant. And for me, it's more or less like the most important thing is more or less like you have a look in the eyes of our supporters when they are on the stands and you see the pride back and they feel, listen, after years and even decades of struggling, we are back.

"We are back on the big stage and we are competitive and we are a proper club and we have a chance wherever we go, we travel to Tottenham and can win the game there. We travel to Man United can win a game there, we can travel to Liverpool and are competitive so this is more or less like what please me most and is the best thing."
