Joe Rodon told Leeds United vice-captaincy verdict amid Daniel Farke decision

The exit of Pascal Struijk from Leeds United has opened up the vacancy of vice-captain and so Daniel Farke will soon have to make a decision.

He will have already have his thoughts, with a dressing room full of potential leaders. Joe Rodon is perhaps one of the leading candidates.

Asked by Leeds Live this week about the possibility of taking on the role this summer, Rodon replied: “The boss has his ideas, I have no idea how that's going to go. But of course, it'd be an honour and a pleasure for me, especially at this club.

“I think everyone knows how I feel about this club and what it means to me. So yeah, whatever I'm asked to do… it'd be a complete honour for me.”

There are other potential picks. Jaka Bijol has been branded as ‘captain pedigree’ by the boss while James Justin once took the armband in the FA Cup game against Birmingham City in February, albeit when Rodon was not on the pitch.

Rodon has never led Leeds out as captain at the start of the game but the majority of voters in a Leeds Live poll believe he will before long, should club skipper and close friend Ethan Ampadu be off the field for any reason.

Out of the 1,788 people who cast their vote, a huge 79% reckon Rodon will be named as vice-captain this summer. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, another experienced presence, received 8% while Bijol, Justin and Ilia Gruev received 6% or less of the vote.

Rodon is known for his vocal communication on the pitch and at 28 is now one of the elder members of the squad. He is 14 appearances away from reaching 150 games for Leeds with only Daniel James and Wilfried Gnonto - who joined before Rodon’s initial 2023 loan arrival - accumulating more appearances.
