Leeds United transfer priority to be decided as 49ers consider summer strategy

Leeds Live · Isaac Johnson

Leeds United have a number of areas they will wish to reinforce this summer but which should take the utmost priority?

Many are wondering what comes next with the club’s goalkeeping plans, with new face Lucas Perri being dropped for Karl Darlow in January. Darlow himself is out of contract at the end of the month, although renewal talks are at least expected.

It would not be a surprise to see Leeds chase a new shot-stopper this summer, all being said. Meanwhile, Leeds may feel they need additions to be made at centre-back - particularly if one current option leaves.

Pascal Struijk has a year left on his deal and if a renewal cannot be agreed Leeds may feel they need to cash in. Sebastiaan Bornauw could receive an offer or two given his lack of game time last season.

Leeds were open to a left-footed back-up left-back in January with Jack Harrison - seen as a wing-back by Daniel Farke in the back-three system - expected to leave this summer with an upgrade needed on him and Isaac Schmidt regardless.

Facundo Buonanotte’s loan may have failed but Leeds are short on number 10s and Farke wanted a player who could play wide as well as centrally over the past two transfer windows. What formation he wishes to use next season might thus not actually have a bearing on this mission.

Should Wilfried Gnonto exit Elland Road this summe r then that only further emphasises the need for an alternative left flanker behind Noah Okafor. Valencia-loaned Largie Ramazani was not favoured last season and it is questionable whether he will be this time around.

Perhaps this is where the versatile number 10 comes into play. But either way, Leeds certainly need another back-up striker to Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Lukas Nmecha’s seven-goal was a valiant effort but Leeds do lose a lot when Calvert-Lewin is absent.

Transfer prioritisation does not necessarily mean first through the door, but the main focus of attention and funds. So, which area do you think needs to be top of the transfer wish list?
