Leicester City make Danny Ings transfer U-turn

Leicester Mercury · Josh Holland

Leicester City's move to sign experienced striker Danny Ings is no longer expected to go through, LeicestershireLive understands.

The experienced striker emerged as a target for Russell Martin’s side a couple of weeks ago.

Ings left Sheffield United at the end of June following the expiry of his contract. Reports from The Telegraph had claimed that the 33-year-old, who turns 34 later this month, was due to sign a one-year contract.

However, there has been little movement in getting the striker through the door. Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy have both been confirmed as the first arrivals at the King Power Stadium.

Now, it’s understood that Ings won’t be joining the club and City's search for a striker continues. The former Liverpool and West Ham forward had been expected to come in and add experience to Russell Martin's forward options.

Kirsten Otchere and Nathan Opoku have been used at centre-forward in Leicester’s first three friendlies of pre-season, with both getting on the scoresheet in the victories against Bristol Rovers and Burton Albion

Lorent Tolaj from Plymouth Argyle had been linked with a move to Seagrave earlier in the summer, but looks set to join Bristol City. Leyton Orient’s Dom Ballard is another number nine touted and was the subject of a failed transfer offer from the Robins.

Leicester continued their preparations for the 2026/27 League One campaign with a 3-0 win over Burton Albion on Saturday and will head to Spain next week.

It's crunch time for Leicester City as they face a serious rebuilding process in League One. The transfer window is open and we will see players heading in and out of the King Power turnstiles.
