Admir Bristric substitution explained after Leicester City fan reaction

Leicester City manager Russell Martin has explained his decision to substitute Admir Bristric while his side were chasing an equaliser against Burton Albion.

City found themselves two goals down after half an hour at the King Power Stadium. Matthew Dennis and Kgaogelo Chauke scored for the Brewers, before Oliver Skipp was shown a straight red card.

Wes Burns halved the deficit just before half-time, but Martin's men failed to rescue a point to suffer their first defeat of the 2026/27 season. They have now failed to win in the opening two games of the League One campaign.

In the second half, Martin opted to make a triple change 10 minutes after the break, and took Bristric off. The Bosnian striker made his first start for the club and showed flashes of his quality despite Leicester's difficult afternoon.

To get it, it's a simple one-two punch.

The triple change was met with boos from sections of the King Power Stadium crowd, with Burns, Alves and Bristric all making way. Harry Howell, Tommy Watson and Bobby De Cordova-Reid replaced them for the final 35 minutes.

After the game, Martin was asked about the decision, particularly with Howell and Watson replacing two of Leicester's most dangerous attacking players. "Admir's been training for a week," he said.
