McFarlane, Burns, Joseph - Leicester City injury news ahead of Luton

Leicester Mercury · Josh Holland

Leicester City have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this afternoon's League One clash against Luton Town.

Russell Martin has been without Jakub Stolarczyk and Ben Nelson for some time after the pair sustained ACL injuries. Stolarczyk sustained the issue in the 2-0 win over Plymouth while Nelson has been out since the pre-season friendly game against Genoa.

Jayden Joseph has been absent since the 4-3 win over Stockport County over a month ago, while Wes Burns and Christian McFarlane have suffered with their own problems. Fortunately, there are no new injury problems for the City boss to contend with ahead of the trip to Kenilworth Road.

After being out of the last two matchday squads, Burns is available for selection this weekend. The winger had been suffering with illness.

"Everyone's in a good place and Wes Burns is back as well after being unwell for a couple of days," he said. "We have Wes back to be in the squad, which is good news for us."

Possible return date: Luton Town (A) - Saturday, October 24

McFarlane went down holding his leg after the Jersey Mike's Trophy game with Stevenage and has been managed since. Martin confirmed that he would be ready for the weekend and did not mention any fresh concerns in his press conference.

"Christian took a whack, so he wasn't available, but I think he will be available on Saturday," Martin told LeicestershireLive pitchside at Bromley."

Possible return date: Luton Town (A) - Saturday, October 24

The defender isn't set to return to action any time soon for Leicester, with Martin last insisting that he would miss a "few weeks".

Bade Aluko filled in for him against Peterborough before Martin turned to Will Alves as wing-back over the weekend.

Potential return date: Walsall (H), Tuesday, November 10

The goalkeeper's ACL injury was confirmed, with him set to miss the rest of the season.

"Not good. I feel so disappointed for the big guy," the City boss said. "He’ll be out for the season. It was a really innocuous one on his knee.

"The only silver lining is that him and Ben [Nelson] will get to do their rehab together, they’re in very similar situations."

Expected return date: End of the season

The centre-back suffered an ACL injury in pre-season and has been sidelined since having surgery. "Really disappointing with Ben," Martin said. "It's really sad for him and us. He’ll be out for the majority of the season. He ruptured his ACL.

"He requires surgery next week. So now our job with Ben, who's an outstanding young player and young man, is to support him through that and to make sure he still feels part of it."

He added: "I'm really disappointed because he's a huge asset to this football club, on and off the pitch. We will miss him for sure. It's probably the only negative that we've had in pre-season and it's a big one."

Expected return date: End of the season
