Winks has started City’s last five matches, the midfielder back in the fold following Marti Cifuentes’ sacking, but is left out at the King Power Stadium with Jordan James starting his first match in two months alongside Oliver Skipp.

Elsewhere, Jordan Ayew makes his first start in seven matches up front, the Ghanaian replacing Patson Daka despite the Zambian scoring at Ipswich on Saturday.

The third change sees Hamza Choudhury replace Ricardo Pereira at right-back and as City captain.

With just three changes made, it means Bobby De Cordova-Reid remains in attacking midfield, with Divine Mukasa only among the substitutes.

That’s true too for Jamaal Lascelles, with Caleb Okoli keeping his place alongside Ben Nelson at the heart of the defence. None of City’s four January signings start.

Goalkeeper Fran Vieites and winger Jeremy Monga are both fit to return after injury kept them out of the trip to Ipswich. Harry French and Bade Aluko are the players to make way.

City (4-2-3-1): Stolarczyk; Choudhury, Okoi, Nelson, Thomas; Skipp, James; Fatawu, De Cordova-Reid, Mavididi; Ayew.

Subs: Vieites, Lascelles, Ricardo, Winks, Aribo, Mukasa, Monga, Richards, Daka.
