Yan Diomande reaches ‘verbal agreement’ as Liverpool learn £85m transfer choice

The Reds had expressed an interest in signing the Ivory Coast international earlier in the summer, and had even expressed a willingness to submit an offer. However, there have since been reports that a move to Liverpool may no longer be on the cards, with Paris Saint-Germain having been installed as the favourites to complete a deal.

Now, though, there has been a fresh update on Diomande’s future with another club joining the race for the talented 19-year-old.

Sky Germany claims that Diomande has reached a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid this summer, with the La Liga giants now looking to sign the forward. Diomande also has a similar agreement in place with PSG, and it’s now up to the clubs to agree on a fee with Leipzig.

The Bundesliga outfit have made it clear they would not accept a fee of £85million, want in excess of £100m and aren't going to be forced into selling this summer if they don't want to, so it remains unclear if either Madrid or PSG will be able to agree a fee to secure Diomande’s signature.

Liverpool have added one new forward to their squad with Victor Munoz arriving in a £34.5million deal from Osasuna last month.

Munoz was with the Spain squad for the World Cup on their way to winning the trophy, and will still be on a summer break before linking up with his new teammates at Anfield.

It now remains to be seen what plans Liverpool have for the rest of the summer transfer window and what further new signings could be made before the deadline on September 1.

Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, while Monaco forward Maghnes Akliouche has also been mooted as a potential target.

Liverpool began their pre-season preparations on Saturday night with a 4-2 victory over Sunderland in Nashville, with Kieran Morrison, Dominik Szoboszlai, Federico Chiesa and Lewis Koumas all on the score sheet.
