Mohamed Salah sends 'incredible' message as he makes Liverpool vow to new club

Liverpool Echo · Theo Squires

Mohamed Salah has vowed to replicate his success with Liverpool at Trabzonspor after being blown away by the reception he received ahead of completing his surprise move to the Turkish outfit. The Egyptian left the Reds earlier this summer after being granted a free transfer, with both player and club mutually agreeing to cancel the final year of his contract.

The 34-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, and reportedly also attracted interest from Italy and the MLS. But having previously been in talks with Besiktas, Super Lig rivals Trabzonspor ultimately won the race for his signature.

Salah flew into Turkey to complete his move on Wednesday, initially arriving in Istanbul to undergo a medical examination at Acibadem Maslak Hospital. He then flew on to Trabzon, where he was given a stunning welcome by supporters as they gathered with flares, flags and fireworks to greet the Egyptian late into the night.

Left in awe by the reception he received, Salah led his new club’s fans in Trabzonspor’s traditional three-count chant before leaving the airport. And speaking to members of the press upon his arrival at Trabzon airport, he shared his immediate reaction as he sent a message to supporters.

"I'm so happy to be in this incredible environment,” Salah said after arriving in Trabzon. “I don't remember ever seeing anything like this before.

“There are 25,000 people here, it’s incredible! I’ve never seen anything like it!

“I’ve been successful everywhere. I want to experience success at Trabzonspor as well.”
