Mac Allister makes claim about Liverpool future - 'I spoke purely from emotion'

Ahead of the Reds’ Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid, the 27-year-old admitted he was ‘very, very sad’ after being informed that the club were not in a position to offer him a new deal.

Mac Allister has started the season in impressive form, bouncing back from a disappointing 2025/26 campaign to force his way into Andoni Iraola's starting XI and return two goals and an assist from Liverpool’s opening seven games.

With the Argentine now away on international duty, he has insisted that he could still sign a new deal but would also be happy to see out his current contract on Merseyside if a new offer remains not forthcoming.

"There isn’t a final decision set in stone," he told ESPN Argentina about his future. "The reality is that I still have two years left on my contract.

"In that press conference, because people were asking me about my future, I spoke purely from emotion. I wasn’t judging the club or anything like that.

"In the end, they are the ones who run things and make the decisions, which is completely fine by me.

"Like I said, I’m going to give my absolute best. I have two years left. A lot can happen in two years; there are plenty of possibilities.

"From my side, I really enjoy being where I am. Hopefully, I’ll stay for more years, but if it ends up being just two, that’s fine too.

"I want to enjoy this time with my family because I have no doubt that this is one of the best clubs in the world."
