The Liverpool midfielder captained his side to a 3-1 victory in an international friendly against Kazakhstan at the Nagyerdei Stadion in Debrecen, scoring and assisting in the process. But during the match, a TV camera, which was suspended from the stadium roof by wires, fell onto the pitch from 20 metres above.
According to the BBC, Hungarian media reported that the camera began smoking midway through the first half after a fire damaged the cable supporting it. And in the 26th minute, the heavy electronic device fell to the floor, smashing into the pitch, just a couple of metres away from a pitchside cameraman.
No-one was hurt in the incident, and after play was halted to deal with the removal of the camera wreckage, play resumed.
Having gone a goal down in the ninth minute, Hungary equalised via Szoboszlai early in the second half before the Liverpool ace provided the assist for Andras Schäfer to put the hosts in front.
Bournemouth's Alex Tóth wrapped up the 3-1 win in injury-time, but Szoboszlai was not the only Anfield player in action.
The Reds' reserve goalkeeper Armin Pecsi made his senior international debut as a second-half substitute, coming on just after the hour mark.
The 21-year-old joined Liverpool last summer but is yet to make a first-team appearance, although he was almost called into action against Crystal Palace at Anfield on April 25, when Freedie Woodman required lengthy treatment for an injury in a match that saw both Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili sidelined with their own respective injury problems.
Szoboszlai, Pecsi and Milos Kerkez, who didn't feature against Kazakhstan, will not be figuring in this month's FIFA World Cup after Hungary failed to qualify for the tournament.
