Man Utd 'target' another midfielder with £60m Arsenal transfer battle ahead

Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba were all signed by United to add to the midfield options available to Michael Carrick, while goalkeeper Karl Darlow was the only other signing of the summer.

United were heavily linked with signing a new left-back in the summer, following the departure of Tyrell Malacia, but opted not to go into the market for a new addition.

With the summer transfer window closed for a few weeks, fresh reports are starting to emerge about the plans that United may have for the New Year, with another midfielder being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The report claims that Leverkusen already value the 20-year-old midfielder at around €70million (£60million), and would not settle for a lower fee from interested clubs.

The report also claims that Manchester City and Arsenal have also joined the race to try and sign Maza in January, while La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are also said to be in the running.

United, as well as City and Arsenal, are reported to be keeping tabs on Maza’s development at Leverkusen, with a view to potentially making an official offer when the January transfer window opens.

City also spent the summer rebuilding their midfield options, with Ayyoub Bouaddi, Elliott Anderson and Enzo Fernandez all moving to the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal also added to their midfield options in the summer with Bruno Guimaraes arriving from Newcastle United on a permanent deal.
