The report claims that Leverkusen already value the 20-year-old midfielder at around €70million (£60million), and would not settle for a lower fee from interested clubs.
The report also claims that Manchester City and Arsenal have also joined the race to try and sign Maza in January, while La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are also said to be in the running.
United, as well as City and Arsenal, are reported to be keeping tabs on Maza’s development at Leverkusen, with a view to potentially making an official offer when the January transfer window opens.
City also spent the summer rebuilding their midfield options, with Ayyoub Bouaddi, Elliott Anderson and Enzo Fernandez all moving to the Etihad Stadium.
Arsenal also added to their midfield options in the summer with Bruno Guimaraes arriving from Newcastle United on a permanent deal.
