Mason Greenwood 'agrees next transfer' as Man Utd rivalled after opening talks

Manchester Evening News · Maria Ortega

The former Manchester United winger, 24, scored 26 goals and registered 11 assists in 45 appearances for Marseille this season. Given the French side's ongoing chaos and failure to qualify for Europe, Greenwood is keen to move to Serie A this summer.

Greenwood’s salary will reportedly start at £3.9million-per-year plus bonuses, but will increase each season. Some of his bonuses are said to be easily attainable, with the forward expected to hit various performance-based milestones.

His former club United would receive 40 per cent of the profit of the transfer fee should the move materialise. That's due to the hefty sell-on clause they negotiated during his £26m transfer negotiations with Marseille back in 2024.

However, the Greenwood deal isn't the only bit of business on Roma's part that would have repercussions at Old Trafford. The Italian side also hope to strengthen their left wing position and is reportedly pursuing Crysencio Summerville.

The West Ham star has attracted attention from a number of clubs, including United, off the back of his impressive form. The Hammers' recent relegation means Summerville, who is currently representing the Netherlands at the World Cup, could be sold for a fee in the region of £50m.

Roma's interest may come as an unwelcome development in United's pursuit of the 24-year-old, acting as a factor in driving his value up, along with his World Cup displays.

The Athletic reports that United are among several clubs keeping tabs on Summerville, having already made an opening enquiry to West Ham about his situation. Summerville, who is under contract until June 2029, is one of West Ham's most saleable assets following their relegation and could therefore be sold.

His versatility has seen him emerge as an attractive option for United should they move for a winger this summer, though strengthening in midfield will remain the club's priority. Fellow Irons star Mateus Fernandes remains another top target.
