Michael Carrick's side are expecting a busy summer as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of a return to the Champions League.

United have already agreed a £35milllion deal to sign Atlanta midfielder Ederson who has undergone a medical. The Brazilian is set to sign a four-year contract with the option of an extra year.

Ederson is expected to arrive as one of at least two new central midfielders, adding some much needed depth to a problem area last season. However, there'll be a slight delay until the 26-year-old arrives at Old Trafford after a World Cup campaign with Brazil.

He was called up as a replacement for the injured Wesley just days before the tournament in North America. Sandro Tonali is another name being linked with a move to Manchester United, with his future at Newcastle United up in the air after missing out on European football.

Another star who needs his future addressed is Marcus Rashford after spending last season on loan with Barcelona, but the La Liga side decided against activating their option-to-buy fee agreed with United.

We will bring you all the latest right here on our live blog, which you can read below...

The 22-year-old has been with England's training squad ahead of the World Cup, and could reportedly be available for around £60 million.

Bournemouth are attempting to renew the player's contract, with his current deal due to expire in 2028. Any new contract will include a release clause of around £75 million.

CommentsAmie WilsonToday11:16 BSTExit 'expected'Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is expected to leave Manchester United this summer, in search of more regular game time.

The Athletic reports that there is interest from clubs in Turkey.

The 28-year-old has been with United since 2023, and has made 17 first team appearances for the club.

He has just one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.

CommentsAmie WilsonToday10:31 BSTMichael Carrick on midfield transfers Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has spoken about the need for a 'strong midfield' going into the new season.

United are prioritising midfield in the transfer window, with a deal already agreed to sign Ederson from Atalanta.

United are also targeting other players in the position including West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson.

Speaking to the United We Stand fanzine, Carrick said:

The Italian side is thinking of making a move for United midfielder Manuel Ugarte this summer. He has struggled to make an impact since joining in 2024, and looks set for a move away from Old Trafford.

Ugarte's representative Jorge Mendes has started discussions with Milan over a possible move this summer.

CommentsAmie WilsonToday09:30 BSTRashford transfer valuationManchester United have set a £40 million asking price for Marcus Rashford, but that price will not be available to Liverpool or Manchester City.

ESPN reports that United are open to Rashford joining another English club, after Barcelona opted against triggering the £26 million option in their loan deal. However, they will want £40 million, and have ruled out moves for Liverpool or City.

Rashford, however, is said to favour seeing out the remainder of his contract at Old Trafford over joining another Premier League club.

Man United face fresh £23m summer transfer window problem

CommentsAmie WilsonToday08:24 BSTRashford latest as showdown talks setMarcus Rashford will return to Manchester United for showdown talks with club bosses following the World Cup, writes Jeremy Cross for the Mirror.

Rashford has seen his hopes of a permanent move to Barcelona collapse - leaving his immediate future in limbo.

Despite a change in manager, with Michael Carrick replacing Ruben Amorim last season, Rashford believes his long-term future will be best served at another club.

But United have blocked him joining either Manchester City or Liverpool, who have shown interest in Rashford before, while Arsenal have cooled on the idea of signing him.

CommentsShane Ireland16th Jun23:12 BSTUnited have four contract decisions to makeBruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Altay Bayindir are heading into the final year of their Manchester United contracts.

Fernandes broke the Premier League assist record this season, and United chiefs have informed him of their desire for him to stay beyond this summer.

United have the option to extend Fernandes' contract by 12-months, so there are currently no plans to offer the captain a new deal, but that could change in the 2026/2027 campaign.

CommentsIsaac Seelochan16th Jun22:22 BSTUnited in multi-million pound boost Amorim has been announced as the new AC Milan manager, saving Manchester United millions in compensation payments. Amorim was relieved of his duties in January after just 14 months in charge - leaving United with a hefty £15.9million compensation bill for ending his contract early.

His departure also saw coaches Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro and Jorge Vital leave Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick brought in. During his five months out of work, United continued to pay Amorim compensation as he had initially signed a contract running until June 2027.

Having now succeeded Massimiliano Allegri at the San Siro on a two-year deal, the compensation figure is expected to be significantly reduced. Amorim's new salary will help balance out the cost for United.

CommentsIsaac Seelochan16th Jun20:42 BSTMaguire explains World Cup snubHarry Maguire has revealed Thomas Tuchel informed him and other snubbed England stars they had missed out on his World Cup squad over Facetime. The Manchester United centre-back also admits to having "had words" with the Three Lions boss after his decision.

He said: "I’m very good, obviously it was disappointing at the time, but it’s been a few weeks since then. I’ve been away. I went to Barbados and found myself here with you guys, so I'm really excited for what’s to come. This is the second-best place I could be.

CommentsIsaac Seelochan16th Jun20:07 BSTWest Ham send Summerville transfer messageWest Ham are in no rush to sell Manchester United-linked Crysencio Summerville despite their devastating relegation to the Championship. It is said a number of clubs, including Champions League winners PSG, are now looking to capitalise on West Ham's situation and are hopeful of securing a cut-price deal.

However, West Ham sources tell The Mirror that won't be happening and they are happy to wait until after the World Cup to negotiate a transfer.

There is, however, an acceptance that it will be difficult to keep the player this summer but they won't rush a sale and the same also applies to fellow United target Mateus Fernandes.

CommentsIsaac Seelochan16th Jun19:26 BSTCarreras claimChelsea are reportedly playing down links with former Manchester United left-back Alvaro Carreras. The Spaniard spent his early youth development at Real Madrid's academy before moving to England.

He was signed by United at the age of 17 in 2020, where he went on to win the Under-23 Player of the Year award for the 2021-22 campaign.

Despite his domestic youth success in Manchester, the left-back never made a single competitive first-team appearance for United. He spent subsequent spells away on loan, featuring for Preston North End and La Liga club Granada.

CommentsIsaac Seelochan16th Jun18:55 BSTSancho facing new worryJadon Sancho is looking for a new club with the winger on the way out of Old Trafford this summer.

Five years after signing from Borussia Dortmund for £73m, he's heading to a new team for free after a torrid time at Old Trafford.

However, one deal that would appear to be straightforward for the ex-Aston Villa loanee could turn out to be tricky to complete.

That's because The Athletic report that while Dortmund is still a potential landing spot for Sancho, they are keen not to block the route into the club's first team setup for youngsters Samuele Inacio and Mathis Albert.

CommentsRichard Cusack16th Jun17:56 BSTUgarte interestAC Milan are reportedly considering a move to rescue Manuel Ugarte from his Manchester United nightmare. Colleagues at the Mirror claim that United are desperate to offload Ugarte to the highest bidder this summer.

And Italian giants Milan are weighing up a deal to reunite the Uruguayan midfielder with Ruben Amorim. The Reds signed Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 in a deal costing £42m. But the midfielder has failed to make an impact.

CommentsIsaac Seelochan16th Jun16:51 BSTWhat next for Rashford? The Manchester Evening News understands that, following the expiration of this clause on Monday, United will actively look for alternative permanent buyers for the academy graduate starting today. Club management is eager to clear his £325,000-a-week salary to protect their newly established wage structure.

Furthermore, the club's leadership feels his high wages do not fit a player who would lack a guaranteed starting role over existing options like Matheus Cunha or Patrick Dorgu.

CommentsIsaac Seelochan16th Jun16:18 BSTSolskjaer 'in the running' for Ipswich jobFormer Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly among the names being linked with the vacant Ipswich Town job after Kieran McKenna stepped down.

BBC Sport claim that the Norwegian is high on the Tractor Boys' list to succeed McKenna at Portman Road. Solskjaer was overlooked for a return to United last season in favour of Michael Carrick, with the Reds reportedly feeling it would be better to avoid someone who had already done the job.

CommentsIsaac Seelochan16th Jun15:49 BSTRuben Amorim closing in on new roleSky Sports claim former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is close to being appointed as new head coach at Serie A side AC Milan.

The Portuguese boss is said to have signed his contract and it'll save United millions in compensation after landing a new role.

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun15:25 BSTWayne Rooney's Kobbie Mainoo messageManchester United legend Wayne Rooney has sent Reds' star Kobbie Mainoo a heartwarming message ahead of England's World Cup campaign.

"Hi Kobbie, just a message to say good luck at the World Cup. Just be yourself and you’ll be a star there, mate.

"Also, how you have handled everything this season has been a lesson to all young football players, a great example to young and old players.

"And finally, you might not see, but having two lads in the United Academy, you should realise you are an inspiration to them and to the young lads there.

"Keep doing what you are doing. Be yourself. Much love, Wazza."

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun15:00 BSTWhy 'unstoppable' Crysencio Summerville transfer will appeal to Man UnitedOn the day that Manchester United change tack on Marcus Rashford, the Reds have been linked with a new name to replace the England international. Rashford was expected to join Barcelona after a good season at the Camp Nou but the arrival on Anthony Gordon in Catalonia has left that plan in tatters, for now.

United would prefer Rashford to leave permanently this summer, and after the deadline for Barcelona to activate his £26m clause passed on Monday, the Reds are now open to offers for him. The hope for United will be that Rashford's performances at the World Cup drum up interest.

In the meantime, United need to think about their next steps. When only interim head coach at Old Trafford, Michael Carrick suggested the Reds would be looking for a left winger in the summer and one look at the squad tells you that will be a priority.

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun14:41 BSTHarry Maguire World Cup snub explainedManchester United defender Harry Maguire says he and Thomas Tuchel had an awakward phonecall after he was snubbed for the Three Lions World Cup squad.

Speaking on the Rest is Football World Cup podcast, Maguire said: "He FaceTimed everyone. It was quite an awkward call. I received a text saying: ‘Can I speak to you about 4pm?’

"It is quite a unique way of doing it and it must be quite hard because he can see everyone’s reactions. I said straightaway I was really disappointed. I thought I did enough to be in the squad and thought I could have helped and had a part to play on and off the pitch.

"He said he can’t give me an excuse but he had gone with the four lads who got him through the autumn. It was tough to take. I did think I would be in the squad after being selected for the March camp under him for the first time. I did really well in both games and then went back to Manchester United and finished the season really strongly."

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun14:15 BSTJuventus star 'holding out' for Man United moveTuttoSport claims Juventus midfielder Kephren Thuram is holding out for a move to Manchester United or Liverpool despite reports linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Reports in Italty say Al Ahli are interested in signing the French international, who has emerged as one of the Serie A's best midfielders.

It's claimed Juventus would not stand in his way should Thuram wish to leave the club this summer.

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun13:56 BSTAnalysisSander Berge would bring 'structure rather than flair'It's clear Manchester United are looking to add more steel to their midfield engine room next season, and Sander Berge would fit that mould. The 28-year-old Norwegian played 3,213 domestic league minutes at Fulham last season, and Machine Football's data frames him as a defensive midfielder built around interceptions and distribution rather than carrying the ball forward.

He's a player who breaks up play deep while occasionally pushing into more advanced areas, a profile defined by structure rather than flair. In United's 4-2-3-1, Berge would add some much-needed height to the midfield.

Interceptions and final-third passing are both expected to improve, with one of his major strengths being screening in front of the defence. Machine Football's cohesion data is encouraging too, with his strongest projected partnerships landing alongside Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes, United's key attacking figures.

Fulham would be looking for a fee above the £25M they invested in signing him from Burnley, with his 'True Value' in the region of £27.3M. Machine Football's analysis indicates a sensible, well-aligned addition, with high confidence in the defensive upside and clear-eyed acknowledgement of its limited creative ceiling.

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun13:33 BSTMan United eye Fulham midfielderManchester United are also keeping an eye on Fulham midfielder Sander Berge as a potential midfield option this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Reds were linked with the midfielder in 2024 when he left Burnley to join the Cottagers.

He's set to appear at the World Cup this summer with Norway and Fulham are looking to make a profit on the £25m fee they paid the Clarets two summers ago, if they are to sell the midfielder.

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun13:04 BSTDo Man United get any money in Carreras deal?Man United inserted a 15% sell-on clause into Alvaro Carreras' contract when they sold him to Benfica. Because of this specific sell-on clause, United received a figure of up to £7.5 million from the £43 million transfer. However, they would receive nothing if he joins Chelsea now, as the release clause expired after Benfica sold him to Real Madrid.

CommentsHusmukh Kerai16th Jun12:41 BSTAnalysisMan United transfer target Crysencio Summerville 'in top one per cent'Manchester United summer transfer target Crysencio Summerville ranks inside the top 1 per cent of all players for taking opponents on. His metrics are that impressive, he ranks second worldwide in Machine Football's 'Direct 7 archetype,' which measures how effective a player is at driving directly at defenders and carrying the ball into dangerous areas.

Across 2,707 domestic league minutes last season, the 24-year-old Dutchman scored five goals and registered one assist for a struggling West Ham United. His estimated transfer value sits around £36.5M, with wages near £43,500 a week. The Reds are being quoted a £50m fee to sign the Dutch international this summer, £13.5M above that valuation.

Machine Football's analysis shows that Summerville would shift United toward a more direct, dribble-heavy style, with offensive duels and ball carries expected to rise sharply, while box touches are expected to edge upward. His pressing profile also lifts the defensive picture, where aggression is expected to climb notably.

However, with aggressive pressing and ball-carrying, there'd be fewer forward passes, and final-third entries are expected to fall. When you weigh up the transfer fee and output in the final third, Machine Football advises caution, rating it a tentative buy.

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun12:19 BSTManchester United stance on Crysencio Summerville ahead of possible double transferWest Ham winger Crysencio Summerville is being monitored by Manchester United this summer. United were prepared to try to sign Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window to play on the left flank.

United have considered left winger options in the market since Semenyo joined Manchester City, and Summerville is on the club's list of targets for that position.

Summerville is currently at the World Cup with the Netherlands. The 24-year-old scored for his nation in their opening World Cup game against Japan on Sunday night, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun11:58 BSTWhat next for Marcus Rashford as Barcelona make decision on Manchester United forwardBarcelona's option to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United for £26million expired at midnight on Monday, meaning the La Liga giants will have to negotiate a new fee if they still want to sign Rashford. United will not engage with Barcelona if the Catalans ask about another loan deal.

Rashford is currently representing England at the World Cup, but he is set to report for United's pre-season once he enjoys a break after the tournament.

The reported £51.4m asking price is around market value, suggesting the transfer would be good value for money.

CommentsMatty Hewitt16th Jun10:29 BSTMan United move for ex-Man City star shining at the World Cup as ideal Casemiro replacementManchester United are in the race to sign Germany World Cup star Felix Nmecha, according to reports. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is already courting many admirers in the USA, but he was first linked with United in February.

He opened the scoring for the Germans in their 7-1 victory over Curacao, whipping a first-time, right-footed finish into the top corner from 20 yards against the Caribbean side. He also impressed with his box-to-box style and ability to snuff out counterattacks.

Nmecha, 25, came through the ranks at Manchester City before joining Wolfsburg in 2021 after an impressive campaign on loan at Anderlecht. Reports from Germany are now claiming he may come back to Manchester to join United, who view him as a potential replacement for Casemiro.
