Lewis Hall to Man United transfer being 'explored' as £60m verdict given

Manchester Evening News · Patrick Austen-Hardy

They have already lost Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon and now look set to lose Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal. However, the Reds may now be set to inflict more transfer pain as Hall remains an interest.

Michael Carrick's side have primarily focussed on strengthening their midfield, but left-back is a position they have wanted to add further steel too. Hall has previously been linked with United and recent reports understand he may be pursued this summer.

Sky Sports has claimed the Reds are considering putting together a transfer approach for the 21-year-old. United currently only have Luke Shaw as an out-and-out left-back with Patrick Dorgu tending to be used in a more forward position by Carrick.

United are able to deploy Diogo Jota at left-back but this is hardly an ideal situation for Carrick. It's currently unclear as to how much money Newcastle would demand for the ex-Chelsea defender.

At present, £60million is a figure that has been floated around, considering his age and the fact he already has 84 Premier League appearances over the course of his time with the Magpies and the Blues.

Newcastle will be desperate to hold onto him having already seen so many key players depart the club. Gordon and Tonali's exits have hurt the club badly and now they may also have to cope with Guimaraes' exit.

Losing Hall would be disastrous for Matthias Jaissle, who has only just got his feet under the table after Eddie Howe announced his resignation from the club. Meanwhile, United are still working on several other transfers.

They are still looking to bolster their midfield with a third new signing having already purchased Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos from Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively. Manu Kone and Aurelien Tchouameni are still being linked with moves to Old Trafford.

Carrick's side have already been linked with the Portuguese winger, with recent reports claiming the Reds may look to offer Zirkzee and £26m for his services. Meanwhile, United are still ploughing on with pre-season.

They face Atletico Madrid later today in Stockholm, Sweden, before taking on Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg (August 8), Leeds United in Dublin (August 12) and then AC Milan in Wroclaw (August 15).
