Man United confirm transfer decision ahead of Michael Carrick appointment

Casemiro arrived at United in 2022 in a high-profile £70m deal, going on to lift both the FA Cup and League Cup during his time at the club. The Brazilian was given a fitting send-off in his final home appearance, but he is not the only United player whose exit was confirmed this weekend.

In considerably quieter fashion, United announced that Malacia will also be departing when the campaign concludes. The club's statement read: "Tyrell Malacia is to leave Manchester United when his contract expires in the summer.

"The Dutch defender was on the bench for the thrilling 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, in our final home game of the campaign. Tyrell joined the Reds from Feyenoord, in July 2022, and has made 49 first-team appearances in total.

"He spent some of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven and has played twice this term, both against Newcastle United, as a late substitute in the home and away fixtures with the Magpies.

"He was part of the matchday squad when we lifted the Carabao Cup in 2023, again when coming up against Eddie Howe's Tynesiders."

Meanwhile, manager Michael Carrick addressed the crowd on the pitch, saying: "There's Tyrell, who I spoke to the boys about before kick-off. He's been through a tough time due to injuries. I encourage you to show him your support."

United are anticipated to be active in the summer transfer window, with strengthening their midfield being a priority. Elliot Anderson has been linked with a move to the club, following an impressive display during Sunday's match at Old Trafford.

When quizzed about the Forest midfielder, Carrick responded: "Yeah, he's done well. I think he's a big part of their team. I think he offers so much and they've got a really talented team and dangerous team.

"So they've had a good season to get to the [Europa League] semi-finals and just fall short. But yeah, you can see obviously he is important part of their team."

England manager Thomas Tuchel has long been an admirer of Anderson, with the German having remarked earlier this year: "He is an elite player with the right attitude and a lot of talent.

"He is fulfilling his role in the best way possible so we are very happy with him."
