United haven't won the title since 2013 and they have failed to even mount a sustained challenge since then, but they are on a good run of form under Michael Carrick and look likely to finish as Arsenal and Manchester City's closest challengers this season.
The standards at the top have also shifted since the days when Pep Guardiola's side were racking up points totals in the high 90s, which gives Maguire confidence that United can compete, and he urged club chiefs to back the squad by investing heavily this summer.
"We've had a great few months under the manager," said Maguire, who committed his own future to Old Trafford this week by signing a one-year contract extension.
"I feel like the squad is starting to look like something that is a strong squad. But this summer's going to be big, really, really big. We need more players, we need better quality, we need players to come into the starting eleven.
Sky broadcasts more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more with at least 215 live from the top flight alongside Formula 1, darts and golf.
"Looking at the Premier League at the moment, I think over the last few years you've obviously had Manchester City, who were really tough to catch, and before the start of the season, you knew you had to put a points tally together where it was some going to catch them.
"I think next season you look at it and I think we've got to be in the bracket where if we get the recruitment right and everything's positive from now to the end of the season and we keep going on the curve there's no ceiling to where we can reach. We've got to be in the conversation to go and win the big trophies."
United spent £225million last summer, bringing in Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, and the success of that window gives Maguire confidence that a repeat in 2026 could propel them forward again, even with a more demanding schedule.
Liverpool won the title on 84 points last season and Arsenal are on course for a points tally in the mid-80s this term. United have closed the gap since the January appointment of Carrick and Maguire is left to rue a slow start that meant they were out of contention early on once again.
He is determined for United to reach spring still in the hunt for the title next season, and having signed on for an eighth season at the club. He is still dreaming of winning the biggest prizes possible at Old Trafford.
"I want to win big trophies, I think that's part of playing for this club," he said. "I always say football is about memories and you can create memories by having iconic matches, scoring goals, but the bottom line is you get memories from winning big trophies. I want to be part of that. That's everyone's dream."
