Manchester United target Atalanta’s Éderson as Casemiro replacement

Summer wishlist also includes Real Madrid’s Tchouaméni

Prefer the Guardian on GoogleManchester United have identified Éderson, the Atalanta midfielder, as a potential recruit to fill the gap left by Casemiro’s summer departure, with the 26-year-old Brazilian valued at €40m-50m (£35m-£45m).

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is an admirer of Éderson and is monitoring the Brazil international after drawing up a list of potential replacements for Casemiro.

Defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte has rarely featured this season and the £51m signing could be sold or loaned out in the summer.

Éderson joined Atalanta in January 2022 from Salernitana, having played for Cruzeiro, Corinthians, and Fortaleza. He made his Brazil debut in a friendly against Mexico in June 2024 and has three caps, the last of which came in a 4-1 loss to Argentina in March 2025.

United are intent on signing two new midfielders and Ederson is out of contract in June 2027. The other midfielders on United’s list include Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni, who would cost around £70m, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, who United value around £50m, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, who would cost at least £60m, and Elliot Anderson, for whom Nottingham Forest may only listen to offers starting at £100m.

United’s next Premier League game is at home to Brentford on Monday night.
