Lankshear brothers driving each other on as Alex aims to help ex-Boro man

As Will made a move from Tottenham to Middlesbrough, older brother Alex left Boston United to join Gateshead.

It allowed Alex to move to the North East with Will, where the pair share a house together, and support each other in their respective campaigns.

Life on Teesside could not have started better for 21-year-old Will, who was seven goals in as many games for Kim Hellberg’s side.

Things have been a little tougher for Alex, who had his own dream debut when the defender’s goal helped Heed pick up their first win of the season against Woking last month.

But it remains the Tynesiders’ only win of the National League campaign to date, as they sit bottom with just four points from their opening six games.

Of the support the siblings provide each other, Alex said: “We are just pushing each other, we work well together and we have worked a lot together in the close-season before we got our moves.

“He’s started very well at Boro, he says positive things about the club and it’s now about pushing on because it’s a long season and we hope they can get out of their league.”

Of course, there is another strong Teesside link at Gateshead with former Boro academy graduate and captain Cattermole overseeing his first season as a manager with the National League club.

Cattermole has made an immediate impression on Lankshear, who believes his new manager has learnt lessons dealing with young players during his time working within Boro’s academy setup.

“He’s top, he demands a lot out of the lads - but I think that’s good so he can get the best out of us,” explained the defender.

“What he does with what is quite a young group is good and I think he can push us and we can push him to get better. He knows how to deal with young players, and that is a massive positive.”

Alex will be hoping he and his new team-mates can continue growing as a side as the season goes on to improve results, while Will will hope he can continue his form throughout the season, with the striker currently topping the Championship goalscoring charts.
