Romain Esse: Millwall re-sign winger from Crystal Palace on loan

BBC Sport · Carlo Ancelotti

Millwall have re-signed winger Romain Esse from Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old started his professional career at The Den, making more 60 appearances for the club before moving to Palace in January 2025 for a reported fee of £12m.

Esse scored with his first touch for the Eagles in the 2-1 defeat by Brentford eight days after signing but found opportunities limited at Selhurst Park.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Coventry City, playing 17 times and scoring twice in the league as the Sky Blues won the Championship title.

Esse becomes Millwall's 12th signing of the summer window and is an immediate replacement for winger Femi Azeez who left the club for Brighton & Hove Albion on deadline day.

His return was sealed before the window shut at 23:00 BST on Tuesday but was only announced on Wednesday morning.

"When I first came in, Romain was the shining light around here," Steve Gallen, Millwall's director of football, told the club website., external

"He went off to Crystal Palace, which was great for him at that time, but he hasn't played as much - so we're going to give him a real opportunity again."
