Millwall manager Alex Neil says that his side's 4-0 battering of Charlton Athletic was what his side deserved.

Three goals in the final ten minutes saw the Lions win by a margin, though Millwall had plenty of chances to make the game much more comfortable, having taken the lead in the seventh minute courtesy of a Kayne Ramsay own goal.

The home side created a staggering 3.97 xG, while Charlton could only manage 0.14.

The win saw Millwall give a massive boost to their play-off chances, as they now sit six points clear of Bristol City in seventh.

Neil believes that while his side got what they deserved, the margin could have been much wider.

"I thought that the performance and the result were a fair reflection for us, it could have been even better if I am being honest.

"My biggest frustration going into half-time was that based on the clear-cut chances that we had in the first half, the score-line was not more in our favour.

"What we spoke about at half-time was trying to get that second goal, we need to try and put the game to bed, we need to be more dominant. So we added a bit more aggression in the press.

"First half, I did not want to be too aggressive because I know that they want to turn us, and then you leave yourself light at the back, so it is important to get that balance without letting them dictate the play."

"I thought letting them have the ball in the first half was beneficial, and in the second half we really turned the screw, got locked onto them a little bit more, and the combinations were better down both the right and the left-hand side.

"To see the clinical nature at the end was more pleasing for me because I think that is the bit right now that we need to be better at if we are going to push on."

Neil also mentioned how he kept reiterating what the derby meant to the Millwall fans, but also that the players kept their heads.

"This game means more to the fans than any other game, and I didn’t play that down during the week.

"I understand the meaning of the game, and I made that clear to the players.

"I spoke to the players about needing to show desire and aggression, but at the same time needing to keep our heads."
