Mundle-Smith makes his mark up front for City

From Croydon to the Championship, it has been quite the recent rise for young Errol Mundle-Smith.

Still only 19, the forward has stepped up amid the Canaries’ injury problems this season, making eight appearances since his first-team debut last November.

Recent cameos against Leicester and Leeds have provided another taste of his promise, with the youngster combining pace, energy and creativity to make things happen in the final third.

He joined Norwich’s academy in September 2023, primarily as a winger, but he is also comfortable leading the line. With Mo Toure and Jovon Makama sidelined, head coach Philippe Clement has needed to manage Mathias Kvistgaarden’s minutes carefully.

As a result, Mundle-Smith has come off the bench to replace the Dane through the middle in both recent appearances, showing he can handle the responsibility.

“It creates opportunities, and you know how I am. I look for solutions, not to look at the problems,” Clement said after the defeat to Leeds.

“Like today, experience for Errol (Mundle-Smith), for example, playing as a striker and hurting them in moments. He's a winger out of the academy who played a few times as a striker, not so much, but never even at the level of the Championship.

“One time now (playing as a striker), last week (against Leicester), taking these experiences, and you have eight or nine players like that today in our team.

“Kenny (McLean) also played at this level (Premier League) before with Norwich. From all the others, nobody played at this level before. So, it's normal that they have to take lessons.

“If I see Jose (Cordoba) playing the second half compared to the first half, I saw a difference. And there are other guys also. I know Ruairi (McConville) will take good lessons out of this game, out of some duels and others where he was not as efficient as in the last few months, where he was brilliant.

“For us, he will grow out of that. So that's part of football. We have a very young squad, you know, by far the youngest in the Championship.

“I don't want to compare with Leeds and the experience that all this squad has and with one missing player. So, this, even with the result, these games will make our squad better towards the future. I'm sure about that.
