Away win brings an historic three points for Norwich City Women

Norwich City Women picked up their first victory in Tier 3 football on Humberside.

Promotion via the play-offs last season put them among the big-hitters in the Northern Premier League, but they now have four points from two games to kick off the new season.

Defences were on top in the early stages, when Grace Riglar and Emily Wallace both went into the referee’s notebook.

But City struck four minutes before the interval when Riglar scored – Natalie Johnson did well to win a corner, which Freya Symonds took to the back post where the City skipper rose highest to nod home from close range.

Symonds tested the keeper before the interval as City went in ahead.

City were indebted to goalkeeper Eva-Jean Young who tipped a volleyed effort on to the crossbar just before the hour mark to preserve their lead.

At the other end, Niyah Dunbar saw her hard work ended by a smothering save by the home keeper before Johnson’s effort was turned onto a post.

But Dunbar got her reward three minutes into added time when she turned the ball home at the near post to seal victory.
