Igor Jesus continues flying form as Nottingham Forest draw with Vitoria

Nottingham Post · Sarah Clapson

Igor Jesus continued his fine start to pre-season as Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 with Vitoria de Guimaraes in a behind closed doors friendly.

The Brazilian striker made it three goals in three games for the Reds so far this summer as he found the net against the Portuguese outfit. Only a second-half penalty prevented Oliver Glasner’s men from making it three wins out of three.

Forest are currently in the middle of a 12-day training camp in Portugal as they build up to the 2026/27 campaign under new head coach Glasner. The Austrian has quickly got across how he wants the team to play, and they continued their work with a run-out earlier today (Sunday).

After Morgan Gibbs-White had fired narrowly off target from range early on, Jesus put the Reds ahead against the Primeira Liga side. The front man pounced after Ola Aina was unable to make the breakthrough with an effort from inside the penalty area.

It could have been 2-0 to Forest at half-time. However, full-back Neco Williams was denied from close range.

Vitoria went on to equalise after the break. Defender Tyler Bindon was deemed to have fouled Zeega and Miguel Nogueira made it 1-1 from the spot.

Taiwo Awoniyi wasn’t too far away from bagging his second goal of pre-season with a shot over the bar. With neither team able to find a winner, it finished all square in the Algarve.

The club have not made the Reds' line-up public. In their first two friendlies, against Notts County (a 2-0 win) and Blackburn Rovers (a 3-0 victory), Glasner fielded a different XI in each half.

Forest are next in action on Friday, when they will bring their stay in Portugal to a close. A behind closed doors game against Portimonense SAD will kick off at 11am BST, followed by a clash with Sporting Lisbon at Estadio Algarve (7.45pm kick-off).
