Manchester City are said to be “accelerating” their efforts to sign Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.
City have had two bids for the midfielder rebuffed as the Reds hold firm in their valuation of their star man.
The most recent offer was worth more than £120m, made up of £106m up front and £15m in potential add-ons.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is known to drive a hard bargain and reports have suggested the Greek businessman is looking for a total package worth up to £130m for Anderson.
Such a fee would make him the third most expensive signing in history.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano issued an update on the situation on Wednesday, also making clear Manchester United are not expected to try to hijack City’s move for Anderson.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Manchester City are accelerating on the deal to sign Elliot Anderson.
“Man City remain in negotiations, remain in conversations. The understanding is that Manchester United will not enter the deal, so Manchester United are not planning for a hijack for Elliot Anderson.
“Also the player is keen on a move to Manchester City even without Pep Guardiola, even with the managerial change.
“The expectation is for this deal to accelerate in the next days.”
