Four Nottingham Forest players with uncertain futures ahead of crunch window

Nottingham Post · Sarah Clapson

The Reds secured Premier League survival with two games to spare so the pressure has been off for Vitor Pereira’s men in their final fixtures. But as they showed at Old Trafford last time out, they are not taking their foot off the gas.

A controversial 3-2 defeat at Manchester United marked the end of Forest’s eight-match unbeaten run in the league, but they fought until the end to try to get a result. It will be no different when they host the Cherries on Sunday (4pm kick-off) in the final match of the campaign.

Pereira has said Forest are keen to keep their prized asset. But if one of his admirers stumps up a big sum, that resolve will surely be tested.

Manchester City are leading the chase for the midfielder’s signature, although Manchester United and others are also interested. It is hardly surprising he is a wanted man as his quality is clear for all to see.

The winger has been the subject of plenty of speculation in recent weeks after a challenging first year Trentside. He has been sidelined with injury recently, so it remains to be seen whether he gets on the pitch against Bournemouth.

Pereira has said only minor tweaks to the squad are necessary, but the Reds will surely consider their attacking options this summer. Lorenzo Lucca will return to parent club Napoli and there have been some whispers about Igor Jesus’ future. Meanwhile, Chris Wood has just 12 months remaining on his contract.

Everton, West Ham United, Besiktas and Mainz have been linked with Awoniyi. There is no question the striker has served the club well, but it wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise if he moves on.

It might be a different story if a club comes calling this summer. The Reds are being linked with a number of defenders, while Jair Cunha has arguably moved ahead of Morato in the pecking order.
