Forest transfer set-back as Roma up ante over Feyenoord's Givairo Read

Nottingham Forest’s attempts to sign Feyenoord defender Givairo Read appear in doubt amid intense competition from Italy.

The 20-year-old right-back says he’s unsure of his future amid several bids from the Reds and AS Roma – the latter of whom appear to be pushing ahead to get a deal over the line.

It is claimed that Forest have made three offers for the player, the latest one of which is between €21m-€23m (£17.9m-£19.6m), according to Sport Witness, which the publication says has been rejected by the Dutch club.

The report claims that Feyenoord are demanding €25m (£21.3m) but that Forest have agreed to a five-year contract with the player.

It adds that AS Roma came forward with a bid this week, which is at least €25m while a delegation from the Italian club are said to have flown to the Netherlands to complete the transfer.

The Serie A side is said to intend to have the full-back on the plane back to Italy as Feyenoord are also willing to negotiate.

As far as Forest go, however, it is claimed that Reds' boss Oliver Glasner hasn’t given up and could make an improved offer to sign him.

Read himself says he’s waiting for the clubs to find an agreement with Feyenoord before making a decision on his future.

“Of course, I find it quite exciting. But I can’t see into the future. I don’t know myself what is going to happen. In fact, I don’t think I even know everything that is currently going on, and that is deliberate,” he said.

“My agents keep a lot away from me so that I can keep my head on football and focus fully on getting fit and in shape for the new season. I’ll just see what happens eventually.”
