Nottingham Forest transfer news - Ibrahim Sangare wanted, 'offer' submitted

Nottingham Post · Sarah Clapson

The Reds have one more game to play this season, with a visit from Bournemouth on Sunday (4pm kick-off). But head coach Vitor Pereira has said planning has already started for next term.

After finding themselves scrapping at the bottom end of the Premier League table this time around, Forest know they need to get it right in the market ahead of next term. The transfer rumour mill is firmly in full swing, so we take a look at the latest news and rumours…

Galatasaray right-back Roland Sallai is on the Reds’ radar for this summer’s transfer window, it has been claimed. The Turkish outfit are said to be open to moving the Hungary international on, and Forest have been credited with an interest.

According to reports in Turkey, relayed by Sport Witness, the Reds are keen on the 28-year-old. A price tag in the region of €25 million (£21.5m) has been placed on his head, although there is said to be “conflict” between Galatasaray and their manager, Okan Buruk, as the latter wants to hang on to the defender - something which could delay any potential deal.

Liverpool, Brentford and Sunderland were linked with Sallai in January but a move never materialised. He is under contract until 2028 after joining Galatasaray from SC Freiburg for €6m (£5m) in the summer of 2024.

Ola Aina has been first-choice right-back for Forest this term, although Neco Williams has switched to that side during his injured teammate’s absence. Nicolo Savona was brought in to provide cover last summer but his season came to an early end following surgery.

Ibrahim Sangare is reportedly a target for Besiktas. But there is expected to be a significant stumbling block for the Turkish outfit in any pursuit of the Reds midfielder.

Besiktas were credited with an interest in the Ivory Coast international earlier this year. Inside Futbol have claimed club staff have been in touch with Sangare’s agent regarding a potential transfer.

However, it seems any deal may struggle to get off the ground due to the Forest ace’s “high cost”. Besiktas are said to still be plotting a “serious push” for his signature, but it may be they cannot afford him.

Given Elliot Anderson is expected to be a wanted man at the end of the season, the Reds are unlikely to want to lose two key midfielders. Sangare and Anderson formed a strong partnership this term and both have developed into crucial players in the Garibaldi.

An offer is said to have been made for Forest youngster Joe Gardner. The 20-year-old spent the season on loan at Mansfield Town, but it is not the Stags who are chasing his signature.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Oldham Athletic have set their sights on the attacker. An opening bid has reportedly been submitted but it seems it fell short of the Reds’ asking price.

The two sides are said to be working to find a middle ground. Gardner had previously had a loan spell at Lincoln City.
