Nottingham Forest transfer agreement reached as club record deal on cards

Nottingham Post · Sarah Clapson

Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Chelsea for Liam Delap, with the front man set to join on a permanent basis for a club record fee.

Strengthening their forward ranks has been a priority for the Reds this summer. They have brought in three new faces so far and head coach Oliver Glasner has earmarked adding another two before the transfer window closes on September 1.

One of those is on course to be Delap. Forest are believed to be set to splash out in the region of £45 million for the 23-year-old.

If all goes to plan, that fee would top the £37.5m winger Omari Hutchinson cost from Ipswich Town 12 months ago. Reports suggest Delap could undergo a medical within the next 24 hours.

Up until recently, a midfielder had also been on the club’s shopping list. Glasner said last week that position was no longer a priority due to James McAtee demonstrating he can operate in that role. Forest continue to be linked with a number of midfielders, nonetheless.

Some outgoings are also possible before the deadline. Dilane Bakwa will be among them, with the winger set to join Lille on loan.

The Reds take on Leeds United this evening in the second round of the Carabao Cup. Glasner’s first competitive game in charge ended in a 1-0 defeat to the same opponents on Saturday as Forest’s start to the Premier League campaign didn’t quite go to plan.
