According to Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, who on Monday reported that the Greens and their skipper were struggling to agree on new terms, Argyle and the 35-year-old have now reached a solution that will see him extend his stay with the League One club into next season.
Edwards, who made the move to Home Park from Walsall in the summer of 2019, has made a total of 292 appearances for the Greens over the course of the last seven years, 41 of which came under the management of Tom Cleverley last season.
While the 35-year-old's current contract, which he signed in September 2024, is set to expire this summer, Edwards has reinforced his desire to remain on Argyle's books, despite the suggestion there has been interest from a number of sides in both League One and League Two.
Asked whether he would be staying at Home Park next season by Plymouth Live after the conclusion of the Greens' season, Edwards replied, "It's the only place I want to be. It's a fantastic football club, I have got an amazing relationship with the fans and the club.
"Hopefully, in the next few days, we will see the answer to that. There is always little bits and bobs, and things that go on, but it's my club, I love playing here, I love the relationship I have got with everyone.
"There is no big conversations to be had," the captain added. "It has maybe taken longer than expected, or everyone had imagined, but for me, captaining this club is something I'm immensely proud to do.
"It still makes me so happy walking out with the boys, it's a privilege to be captain of this football club. Let's just hope it continues and we can go one step further next year."
Naturally, given his importance over the course of Cleverley's first season in charge, the Argyle boss has also been keen to tie his skipper down to a new deal, even if he has accepted the final decision will not be solely his to make.
"As long as Joe doesn't come and ask for double or triple his salary, then I'm hoping the two parties can come to an agreement," Cleverley said when discussing the 35-year-old's contract situation earlier this season.
"There is obviously the club, the player, the agent, and the technical director (Derek Adams), but me as the head coach - and that's why I'm a head coach, because I don't completely control recruitment and contracts - I want Joe Edwards in my team next year."
